Close to 5 million Canadians fly from U.S.
Each year, roughly five million Canadians cross the United States border by land to fly out of U.S. airports in order to save on airfare. Many different factors contribute to this behavior:
- Canadian fees and taxes that raise the cost of the ticket in Canada;
- Lower fuel and labour costs in U.S.
- Fees that apply only to trans-border flights
- Air carrier productivity
- Rise in the value of the Canadian dollar
Be covered before you leave the border
If your next trip departs from United States, be sure to purchase your travel insurance plan before you leave the Canadian borders. As soon as you cross the Canadian border, even if only a few kilometres away, you are considered out-of-country, which would prevent you from purchasing Canadian travel insurance.
